COBRA Alternative Plan

The J. P. Carter Company would like to help your COBRA eligible individuals explore other Medical insurance options.

What is COBRA? COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Reconciliation Act) is a federally mandated act which makes health coverage available to former employees, through their former employer, ending their employment or in cases of death or divorce.

COBRA coverage is also available to dependent children who are no longer eligible for a group plan. COBRA rates are 102% of the actual company cost (a 2% administrative cost is added on).

The employer must have 21 or more employees, and not be a religious non-profit corporation for an employee to be eligible under the COBRA act. And, you must have been covered under your employer's medical or dental plan at time of exiting employment.

At the J. P. Carter Company we have found similar coverage can be purchased with an INDIVIDUAL POLICY. It may also be less expensive and there may be more options to choose from than the employer program offered.

At J. P. Carter Company, we intend for our Web site to be a first stop for individuals and companies looking for information on employee benefits best practices and employee orientation services. A well designed and consumer friendly benefit program promotes employee satisfaction, less employee turnover, and lower employer overhead, i.e., more profits.

Check back here often for articles pertaining to employee benefits. Of course, if you ever have any questions about our products or services, please do not hesitate to call us at (804) 288-5548.
